Avec was founded in 1995, in the years when the market for creative products boomed. That started with folding tea bags and origami, and developed with making your own greeting cards. Thousands of (hobby) specialty shops in the Benelux sold good quality products with a surprising design. However, these stores only reached a limited audience because they were not in A locations, had a specialized range and were very expensive. Stefan Lanslots and Piet Langermans developed a dream: we are going to make people happy offline, we are going to make creative products available to the general public! We will develop products ourselves and ensure that they are for sale at low prices in places where people already come, such as supermarkets, drug stores, discount stores and department stores.
Kruidvat was the first to start selling creative materials. Avec invested in a strong product development department, expanded the product range considerably, started a branch in England and exported to many other countries. And so the historical basis has been laid for contemporary and future success without borders.
